Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about ordering, shipping, and our services.
How do I order school supplies?
You can order school supplies by searching for your child's school and grade level on our website. Once you find the correct supply list, you can add the complete kit to your cart or customize it by adding or removing individual items from the "additional section". Then proceed to checkout to complete your order.
What are other ways to order?
Other ways to order: email us your completed supply kit order form to info@schoolstart.ca, or call us at our customer service centre at 1-800-580-1868 so we can place your order with you over the phone.
Do I have to get everything on the school supply list?
You can choose to purchase the entire school supply kit, the starter package and a few of the additional items, or just the starter package. If you only need a few of the items on the list, you can by-pass ordering through your school and select individual items on our store.
Why can't I find my school?
Please make sure that you choose the correct province and city options when looking for your school. If you still cannot find it, the reason is likely because your school has not partnered with us. If you have the school supply list from your school, you can select those items from our store individually or contact us regarding custom lists.
What if my school is not listed?
If you can't find your school in our system, please contact us at info@schoolstart.ca or call 1-800-580-1868. We're always adding new schools and would be happy to work with your school to create a supply list.
What are 'Black-out-dates' (do not deliver)?
If you're going to be away from your home during a certain time frame, you just place the date range that we should not deliver your order to your home. We will then ship your child's supplies upon your return.
Can I get a certain product (i.e. pencil box/pouch, sticky note, etc.) in a specific colour?
If you are unable to select a specific colour, then the product is only available in one colour or it comes in assorted colours and a colour will be automatically selected for you.
My order has been sitting as "Pending" and has not progressed, what does this mean?
A pending status means that payment attempted to be processed but there was an error with either the CVC code entered or insufficient funds. Since no money was exchanged, your order was not successfully placed and it has not been processed. Unfortunately, your order will need to be re-entered. Please either replace the order online or over the phone with us by calling 1-800-580-1868.
What are custom lists?
Custom lists are school supply lists you forward to us at info@schoolstart.ca from a school that has not partnered with us. We will then build the list and email it back to you to fill out and return to us so we can complete your order and ship it from our warehouse. We will also have the list live on our website if you prefer to order online once the list has been created. Note that during the busiest month of August, we may not be able to accommodate your request. We ask that during this month you pick your supplies out individually from our store. If you would like for us to have your school's lists in the future, please inform your school to get in touch with us for the next school year.
I am unable to login to my School Start account. Can you help?
Check online to see if your kit is being delivered to the school. If this is the case, your kit will be ready and available for you on the first day of school. Look under your account to check the status of your kit. It may be "On Deck" (meaning it is in the process of being put together in our warehouse) or "Shipped" (ready to go and awaiting pickup from Purolator). Look under your account to see if you selected "Black-Out / Do-Not-Deliver Dates" — if you selected dates, then you have requested we do not ship your kit to you at that time (you may be on vacation, moving, etc.). We will not ship your kit during this time period and will ship either before or after this timeframe.
My Purolator tracking number is not working, why?
If you have received an email notification that your kit has been "Shipped" and will be delivered to your home, it is awaiting pickup from Purolator and will likely be updated by the end of the business day. Please check back on it later. If it is being delivered to the school, it is on a pallet and will be shipped closer to the start of school — ready for your child on the first day.
Something was missing or broken in my order, how can I get this resolved?
Please double-check your order with your packing slip. If it looks like something may be missing or broken, reach out to us at info@schoolstart.ca. Email us to let us know what the issue is and we will have a team member resolve this issue.
Is there a deadline to order by?
Unless your school has requested a deadline on their end, we recommend ordering as early as possible since depending on where you reside, delivery can be between 1 to 5 business days. During the busy summer months, we suggest ordering early; however, if this is not possible, we ask that you try to order at least a week or two before your school starts.

Any unused, unlabeled, and intact back-to-school supply kits will receive a full refund, minus any shipping costs once they are returned to our office and reviewed.
Are you open year-round?

I am placing an order for my child's school supplies in BC and I noticed I am being charged PST on some of their school supplies. Can you please advise?
In BC, some school supplies are exempt and others are not. You can review the items that are exempt at the BC government's PST publication on school supplies (PST-202).
